Musculoskeletal Medicine

Musculoskeletal Medicine is a branch of medicine specializing in the diagnosis and management of conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system which include bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, nerves, and tendons. Musculoskeletal Medicine is a complex field of medicine that requires careful diagnosis and management. Musculoskeletal conditions can significantly limit an individual’s mobility and dexterity, leading to lower levels of well-being.

Back Pain, Spine Pain, Joint Pain, Epidural Injection, Facet Injection, Sacroiliac Joint Injection

Epidural Injection (Cervical, Thoracic, and Lumbar)

These injections work by reducing inflammation of nerves that can be caused by herniated disc material or compression from disc or bone spurs.

Facet Medial Branch Block

Facet joint syndrome is an arthritis-like condition of the spine that can be a significant source of back and neck pain.  Facet joint injections are used to treat inflamed and arthritic joints in the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine.

Sacroiliac Joint (SIJ) Injection

The Physician will inject a steroid into the joint space of the Sacroiliac, where the irritated nerve roots are located. The steroid reduces inflammation and irritation, and the anesthetic numbs the nerves in the area, providing relief from low back pain.

Neck Pain, Joint Pain, Nerve Block

Nerve Blocks

Minimally invasive treatment that is most often used when pain is unresponsive to other treatments. Nerve blocks use a numbing medication and sometimes a steroid to prevent nerves from sending pain signals to the brain. If your pain is relieved after the nerve block, you may be a candidate for radiofrequency ablation. Types of nerve blocks include: Occipital Nerve  Block, Genicular Nerve Block, Trigeminal Nerve Block, Pudendal Nerve Block, Intercostal Nerve Block, Peripheral Nerve Block, Stellate Ganglion Block.

Radiofrequency Ablation, Pain Management

Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA)

Radiofrequency waves are delivered to certain nerves, with the goal of disrupting pain signals to the brain. Radiofrequency ablation treats pain from the facet joints, which can cause chronic pain in the lower back or neck, and the sacroiliac joints. This can often contribute to chronic low back pain. Radiofrequency ablation is a treatment recommended for patients who receive a positive outcome for 2 Medial Branch Blocks.

Shoulder Pain, Joint Pain, Joint Injection, Shoulder Injection, Pain Management

Joint Injections:

Elbow, Hip, Knee, and Shoulder

Joint injections are a minimally invasive treatment for relieving pain caused by an inflamed joint.  Joint injections include steroid medications and anesthetic numbing solutions, that go directly into the affected joint.

Corticosteroids reduce inflammation that causes chronic joint pain and  the numbing agent provides immediate pain relief.

Trigger Point Injection, Pain Management

Trigger Point Injections

When connective tissue called fascia becomes constricted or tight, it may cause pain in the immediate area, resulting in restricted movement.  Restricted movement may result in referred pain to other areas of the body. A trigger point injects medicine into those constricted or tight areas within the fascia or muscles that are causing the pain. Occasionally, trigger points may be felt under the skin as a knot or nodule.  You may feel muscle twitches or pain when the knots are pressed on with your finger.

Spinal Cord Stimulation, Spinal Cord Stimulator, SCS Trial, Pain Management, Back Pain, Neuromodulation

Neuromodulation |  Spinal Cord Stimulation  |  SCS
Spinal cord stimulation is a highly effective procedure for chronic pain conditions that have not responded to more conservative treatments. Spinal cord stimulation uses electrical impulses to relieve chronic pain of the arms, back, and legs. Electrical pulses prevent pain signals from being received by the brain. Spinal cord stimulation is a safe, effective, and drug-free treatment option for many chronic pain conditions including
Nerve root compression,, Failed back surgery syndrome, Spinal stenosis, Degenerative disc disease. Sciatica or lumbar radiculitis, Complex regional pain syndrome, Peripheral neuropathy, and Central sensitization.

Kyphoplasty, Vertebroplasty, Compression Fracture, Spine Pain, Spine Fracture, Back Pain

Kyphoplasty
Compression fractures, cause the vertebrae lose stability, collapse, and produce debilitating pain. loss in height, and poor posture.
Kyphoplasty surgery involves inserting a bone cement into the fractured vertebra to offer support and strength. To access the affected vertebra, a small incision is made at the point of the fracture, If the vertebra has collapsed due to the fracture, the physician will use specialized tools to create a cavity inside the vertebra to restore it to its original height  Once the cavity is enlarged, bone cement is injected inside the vertebra. The incision is closed, and the patient can usually go home the same day.
